The Wonderful Hoosiers of Oz

Just got the Three-Disc Collectors Edition of the MGMs The Wizard of Oz. Hoosiers have had some sort of collection to this film and with other Oz related films.

There is a new commentary on the DVD with historian John Fricke but Sidney Pollack is the host and introduces interviews. The set also has copies promotional material from the August 15, 1939 premiere at Sid Grauman's Chinese Theatre.

Munchkins have an Indiana connection. Mitzi Koestner from Muncie and Arnold Vierling from Seymour. Bud Linn from Indianapolis was one of the singing voices of the Lollipop Guild.

Otis Turner directed three Oz films in 1910. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is on the three-disk set. Other films were Dorothy and the Scarecrow in Oz and The Land of Oz. Charles Murray from Laurel was the Wizard of Oz in 1925.

Some extra Indiana connections are that Jo Anne Worley played the Wicked Witch on Broadway in 1999, Red Skelton was the host of 1959 showing of the film on CBS and in northern Indiana the city of Chesterton has a great festival every year.

Non-Hoosier DVD review "Hero at Large"

If you like superheroes, this is a good film. Nice theme music. Filmed on location in New York. The movie deals with that anyone can be a hero. There is a bit of struggling actor story.

Hero At Large [DVD](1980) DVD
John Ritter is hired to make personal appearances as comic hero Captain Avenger. After foiling a holdup, the public believes him to be the real thing, and he starts to also. Charming comedy about heroism also stars Anne Archer, Kevin McCarthy and Bert Convy. 98 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital mono, French Dolby Digital mono; Subtitles: English, Spanish, French; theatrical trailer.

Fox anger about comments from talk show host Kimmel

Jimmy and Vivica in a Star war
New York Daily News Thu, 01 Sep 2005 1:29 AM PDT
Don't go dissing Star Jones around VIVICA A. FOX. You might get threatened. ABC late-night host Jimmy Kimmel learned that lesson the hard way Tuesday when the sultry actress vowed to beat him with her shoe over his nasty cracks about the "View" panelist, a close friend of hers

Review: The Party

DENNY MILLER plays a cowboy type actor that becomes friends of the Peter Seller character during a pool game. He is ok as a loud western. The film is a bit slow. Today this would be a Mr. Bean type movie.

The Party [DVD](1968) DVD
Peter Sellers is captured in riotous, Clouseau-esque form as a klutzy Indian movie star who's imported to Hollywood...and manages to systematically trash both his first production and its wrap party!! Gutbuster helmed by Blake Edwards co-stars Claudine Longet, Marge Champion, Gavin MacLeod. 99 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English mono, French mono, Spanish mono; Subtitles: English, French, Spanish; trailer.

Tavis Smiley on court show

Saw TAVIS SMILEY on Judge Hatchett. He was council to a mixed up young man. Poorly done. It had clips showing the Tavis is a very busy man at on his radio and TV show and that he could only talk to this young man in a limo and dressing room. Tavis just asked questions about what the young man wanted to do in the future. I would like to see a what his future could be if he stays on this path. The young man was just a zombie and telling people what they wanted to here. I did not see him motivated to change his ways.
